Soon you will be able to get personal weather reports from XM Satellite Radio sent to your GPS navigation system. The technology will track specific real time weather conditions between your current location and your final destination. Moreover, it will offer the near term weather condition for your personal path. The weather information is continuously updated and delivered to the navigation system via satellite. The technology has been developed by XM and its weather solutions partner, Baron Services. This partnership already offers weather bulletins for airplanes, boats, and emergency responders.
XM will be exhibiting a demonstration vehicle at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, this month which will showcase not only this technology, but the XM NavTraffic real time traffic service, and in-car video systems developed by XM and On2 Technologies that can receive video and audio from XM. The demonstration vehicle will also feature voice recognition and parking locator technology. ParkingLink, a project of XM, Quixote Transportation Technologies, and Standard Parking Corporation, locates parking facilities on the vehicle’s navigation screen and alerts the driver how many parking spaces are currently available.
Our take? You think there will be technology via satellite that will time out the traffic lights so that you never get a red light only green?
