Here’s not so good news for the Detroit Three, or General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler.
Women, who compose slightly over fifty percent of the U.S. population, prefer their foreign competitors makes and the nonprofitable compact vehicles.
That’s according to a study of new car registrants by Truecar.com reports the Detroit Free Press.
Kia topped the list with 45.8% female registrants, followed by Suzuki and MINI. Men, on the other hand, tended to register high priced exotics like Bugatti, Ferrari, and Lamborghini. More interest to the domestic automakers, though, is that men registered the more profitable pickups from GM, Dodge, and even Toyota.
Full details can be found at the article. Our take? Car buying in the U.S. is one of the most hostile environments outside divorce court. Thus, we’re not surprised women, especially solo, would rather get the horrid experience over with by purchasing low cost vehicles. (Salesfolks don’t make much commission on them.) That, or let their more aggressive significant other deal with the salesperson.
