With No Interest in HUMMER, General Motors prepares to close Brand Indefinitely

Hummer Cave Painting

If you want a HUMMER, you’d better buy one now.
General Motors, as it struggled through bankruptcy last year, tried to sell the HUMMER brand to Sichuan Tengzhong of China. The Chinese government, however, nixed the sale. GM, ever the optimist, said it would continue to seek new buyers though taking steps in closing the brand.

Well, looks like no one’s interested. Automobile Magazine posts that GM recently notified HUMMER dealerships in a conference call that it will be shutting down the brand “indefinitely”. The dealers would be soon receiving official letters with the announcement and details on the winding down process.

Our take? We’re not really surprised. With the world still in a recession and gas prices rising, the market for a large, gas-guzzling, SUV is near empty.
