Earlier this month, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) announced it was investigating the 2011 Ford Explorer and the 2011 Chrysler 200—formerly known as the Sebring—upon receiving several complains from owners.
The ODI, which is part of the federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reports it has received 15 complaints of power steering assist loss in Ford Explorer SUVs, making it more more difficult to maneuver the SUV. While some owners state they received a power steering warning message before the loss, others did not. Also, some Ford Explorer owners state the issue seemed resolved after restarting the SUV, only to return again. The ODI is collaborating Explorer owners complaints with reports received from Ford’s Early Warning Reporting data submissions program.
Engine stall is the ODI’s focus on the 2011 Chrysler 200 sedan and convertible. According to the 15 reports received, the cars would unexpectedly start stalling when braking at stops and intersections. Vehicles affected by the issue are all equipped with Chrysler’s 3.6-liter V-6 engine.
Note the ODI’s is currently investigating the 2011 Ford Explorer and Chrysler 200 issues, i.e., a “preliminary investigation”. Neither vehicle is being recalled by either the NHTSA or their respective automakers. No accidents, injuries, or fatalities have been reported involving the above issues at the time of this post.
