It’s Saturday! Other than sleeping in and watching the Stanley Cup finals tonight–or stocking up for tomorrow night’s NBA Finals game–you can spend a little time finally taking a step back, relaxing, and reading what went on this week in the auto industry. That’s why we write up our Week in Review every weekend, breaking down what you ought to know in the world of cars. This week, we saw plenty of spy shots, as the 2015 Ford F-150 SuperCrew broke cover on a rainy Michigan day.
We also got to check out the new video games coming from the E3 convention, which look to reignite the Forza vs. Gran Turismo debate. And AAA reported that voice-to-text is just about as distracting as texting while driving. But those weren’t the biggest stories of the week. Read below to find out what were.
Monday, June 10
An all-new 2015 Ford Mustang is just around the corner, and it will usher in the car’s first standard independent rear suspension, a turbocharged four-cylinder designed with Europe in mind, and what we’re sure to be a host of other new-fangled technologies. We’ve not seen a whole lot of it until now. The 2015 Ford Mustang was spotted testing in Detroit, and while there were foam bits shoved under its black vinyl cover to distort its shape, we were able to make out a few details of the new pony car, including verification that the next car will, in fact, have “Kinetic” styling similar to the current Ford Fusion’s. A few classics are being auctioned off, including a Steve McQueen’s Chevrolet pickup, Frank Sinatra’s Jaguar XJS, and one of the star cars from the Flintstones live-action movie. In late-July Mecum auctions is headed to Santa Monica, California, to bring some cars of the stars across the auction block. Another slick ride will be Elvis Presley’s one-off Cadillac station wagon, a car we as wagon lovers can get behind. In fact, up until the current Cadillac CTS, the brand hadn’t made a wagon for the U.S. in decades. All of the cars at this Mecum auction look to be amazing, so bid up!

Did you know Buick was planning on making a midsize crossover? We didn’t, either. Honest. But Buick is. Really. Called the 2015 Buick Anthem thus far, and it’s going to be based on the next-generation version of the “Delta” platform that underpins the Chevrolet Cruze, and will be shared with the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. With a good chunk of LED lights on the front and rear, this crossover looks like it’s going to be a little more upmarket from its corporate cousins, which makes us wonder what Cadillac is planning to do with the next-gen SRX. Another thing we wonder about is why the 2015 Buick Anthem has a Lidar unit up top. Autonomous driving? Or is Buick just testing its next generation of smart cruise control?

There hasn’t been a whole lot of news around the 2014 Cadillac CTS lately. Most everything from General Motors has been Corvette this or Corvette that. That changed on Thursday when Cadillac priced its next-gen CTS sports sedan. Growing significantly over the current model to better battle the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series, the 2014 CTS will start at $46,025, including $925 for destination and handling. That money will net you a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, although a V-6 will also be available. In addition, the twin-turbocharged 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport is on its way, starting at $59,995. Sound reasonable?

Not to be outdone by Cadillac, BMW introduced a new car of its own a day later. Finally, the production version of the 2014 BMW 4 Series has landed. In the U.S., it will come in 428i and 435i guise, both with rear- and all-wheel drive available. Longer, lower, wider, and lighter than the BMW 3 Series coupe it replaces, the 4 Series is going to be a major product for BMW, as it looks to stretch the automaker’s compact offerings higher up the food chain. The car is set to start at $41,425, including $925 for destination and handling. We’re just hoping that with the 4 Series, BMW works out some of the few kinks that plague the 3 Series by way of its abrupt auto start/stop system and the watered-down steering feel of the current model. We’ll know soon enough when it goes on sale late this summer.
