When we heard a diesel engine was making its way into Chrysler Group’s portfolio last year, we’ll freely admit it piqued our interest. We were recently given the opportunity to get behind the wheel of this all-new 3.0-liter V-6 turbo EcoDiesel engine with the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and it didn’t disappoint. We flew to Austin, Texas, to sample the expanded assortment of Grand Cherokees which included the all-new diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. Jeep gave us ample time to feel the diesel engine out while both on- and off-road. We even had the opportunity to wrestle with SRT’s Grand Cherokee variant at Circuit of the Americas, which, like the diesel model, left us wanting more.
For the 2014 model year, Jeep turned up the luxury with features like Dinamica headliner that continues down onto the A-pillar, an optional moonroof that stretches across both rows of seats, and some of the finest Nappa leather Jeep could sew together. Outside, LEDs can be found in the headlights and tail lamps as well as the turning signal indicators. Could all of these standard and optional luxury features continue the Grand Cherokee’s push up market? Is the diesel engine really worth an additional $4,500? Check out our thoughts of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, Summit, and SRT to find out.
