Volvo is issuing recalls of its 2013 S80 sedan and XC70 station wagon due to an issue with the vehicles’ tire pressure monitoring system, or TPMS.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the message, “TPMS Service Required” will pop up on the Volvo S80 and XC70 monitors after driving the vehicles over 15 minutes at a continuous 25 mph. The message display is an error from the S80 and XC90′s central electronic module (CEM). The error, states the NHTSA, interferes with legitimate warnings if the tire is underinflated. Such underinflated tires can then result in blowouts and vehicle crashes.
Volvo will be in touch with S80 and XC90 owners about the recall and to bring their vehicles into dealerships. The automaker has not provided a schedule when it will start notification at the time of this post. Service personnel at the dealerships will reprogram the CEM without cost to the owner.
