Volkswagen Routan Will Send Your Kids to College

2009 Volkswagen Routan Front Right Beach

Volkswagen is taking a new approach to marketing by sweetening the deal on their 2009 Volkswagen Routan by paying for your college tuition.

How? Basically, you get a $1,500 rebate in an uPromise college savings web account that can then be transferred over to a tax-advantaged 529 college savings account.

The U.S. minivan market has been shrinking these past few years, along with the rest of the industry, but Volkswagen hopes the Routan will remain competitive by selling 20,000 units each year. Chrysler builds the Routan for VW, and comes with the choices of a 3.8 liter or 4.0 liter V6 engines, along with recognizable VW appearance and interior design.

Our take? So what about the rest of us that don’t go to college anymore? Save it for our unlikely-to-ever-happen kids?

I am a big VW fan but what does this type of marketing say? Certainly those that don’t have children are probable not considering a minivan, are you? Well I have two in college so anyone not needing that uPromise college savings feel free to pass it along.
