The 2012 Paris Motor Show is still more than a month away but Jaguar has stepped up teasing its all-new F-Type roadster recently. The F-Type marks the return of Jaguar to the sports car segment, and it will officially be unveiled to the world on September 27 in Paris. While we haven’t seen anything more than a camouflaged testing mule, we expect the F-Type to share some styling characteristics with the XK and even the C-X16 concept vehicle.
It’s also all speculation as to what is under the hood exactly, but we expect to see a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 and the usual 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine seen in Jaguar’s lineup. Jaguar hasn’t provided any official engine numbers yet but by the sound and looks of the video below, the F-Type is fast. The F-Type represents something that has been missing from Jag’s lineup for quite some time, a roadster that appeals to the younger and older generation alike. Jaguar has been working to tweak its brand image so it’s more appealing to a younger crowd, but the British automaker doesn’t want to scare off its current customer base. That’s why the F-Type is so important to Jaguar: it represents two important demographics that control a good portion of the luxury car market.
While a blinding glare prevents you from seeing too much of the F-Type as it whips down the track in the video below, one thing is for sure: it’s fast. There’s also a quick look at an exploded view of the F-Type’s engine and a supercharger whirls about pushing the roadster along. We don’t want to ruin today’s installment of Video of the Day so you’re going to have to watch the video below to see the F-Type fly around while its engine rumbles along with it.
What do you think about the F-Type so far? Is Jaguar headed in the right direction with it? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
