Has a new Ford left you wondering, “Is that a Ford? That looks good!” in the past few years? Ford has come a long way in the past decade in terms their design and appeal. From 2005, when Ford’s Kinetic design philosophy began, to today’s global design program, Ford is turning heads all over the world.
Ford’s Kinetic design started in 2005, with the European Mondeo sedan as it first representative. Through time, as the Fiesta and Focus were redesigned, Ford came into its global design language, a design baseline if you will, that stretched all over the globe. The Evos concept, launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2011, was a glimpse into Ford’s new global design and where they were taking their styling in the future. The U.S. market Ford Fusion was Ford’s first real translation of their new global design strategy, and it has been a huge success.
However, a few vehicles that don’t quite fit into this new global design language, the F-150 and Mustang to be exact. It should be interesting to see how these particular brands progress with Ford’s new design language. Recently we had seen some 2015 Ford Mustang spy shots, and even through the heavy masking you can tell that the new design language is translated onto the new Pony car. It’s still a Mustang, but with a Global Design feel.
On this week’s Wide Open Throttle, Motor Trend’s Ed Loh and Scott Burgess sit down and talk at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show with Martin Smith and Moray Callum from Ford to talk about the latest designs in Ford cars as they hit the road. With insight on past, current, and future Ford models, we’ll see if our heads keep turning…or just turn away.
