Up until a few hours ago, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was unquestionably the star of the 2013 North American International Auto Show. The 2015 Ford Atlas Concept may have something to say about all the attention the ‘Vette is getting but nevertheless, the C7 Corvette is still impressive. Overall, the folks at Chevrolet did a nice job keeping the latest Corvette under wraps. After months of renderings and speculation, it wasn’t until yesterday that the C7 Corvette was fully exposed to the world. Now, for the next few months, we expect that it will be hard to look anywhere in the automotive world without seeing the C7 Corvette.
On the latest installment of The Downshift, integral pieces of the Corvette’s engineer and design team talk about how the C7 came to be. Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter talks about how it was important to bring the Corvette into the 21st century and how the Stringray made a triumphant return at the last hour. To help propel the C7 Corvette into the next century, the design team decided to break tradition and take an alternative route, as the interior and redesigned taillights prove. The C7 Corvette’s bones are now made up entirely of aluminum and as a result, almost 100 pounds were shed.
