After a momentous year with the debut of the 2013 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover, we were wondering what was in store for the automaker’s bigger, 2013 Mazda CX-9. Mazda had said earlier this year that the midsize CX-7 was in its final throes, and the two-crossover strategy will help to more clearly distinguish the CX-5 and CX-9 moving forward. But the Mazda
CX-9 is already a good, capable three-row SUV. So what’s in store for the new model year?
From the looks of the video below–released by Mazda Canada–a few features are new. Mazda applied the newer CX-5 grille on to the 2013 CX-9, to give the big and small crossovers a more cohesive face. Inspired by the headlights on the attractive 2014 Mazda6, the CX-9 will also get the LED treatment. And the interior seems to have been updated with a new media screen, as well. The video highlights the Mazda Kodo design language with a light-show emphasizing the character lines and flow of the 2013 Mazda CX-9. And while we’ve seen some static images of the CX-5′s big brother, the video shows the new CX-9 in motion.
The 2013 Mazda CX-9 just officially debuted in Australia, and we’d expect a U.S. release to follow in the near future.
