Earlier this month, Toyota announced that it has added several models to its previous recalls addressing floor mats that could interfere with the accelerator pedal.
According to Toyota, floor mats on model year 2006 and 2007 Lexus GS models have the possibility of interfering with the accelerator is not reinstalled properly after vehicle service. The driver side mats on the affected vehicles contains a plastic pad that has the possibility of interfering with accelerator pedal operation when installed improperly.
A similar issue affecting 2004 – 2006 Highlander and 2004 – 2007 Lexus RX models prompted the automaker to voluntarily recall the SUVs. The vehicles affected were delivered with floor mats and retention clips that may slide forward and cause undesired effects if installed improperly.
Amending an earlier recall, Toyota added 2003 – 2009 4Runner, 2006 – 2010 RAV4, and 2008 – 2011 Lexus LX570s to its list of vehicles with the possibility of having unsecured or incompatible floor mats possibly causing unintended acceleration.
According to Toyota, roughly 2.1 million vehicles are covered under the recall, including:
* 761,000 2006-2010 RAV4
* 603,000 2003 – 2009 4Runner
* 397,000 2004 – 2007 Toyota Highlander
* 372,000 2004 – 2007 Lexus RX
* 20,000 2006 and 2007 Lexus GS
* 17,000 2008 – 2011 Lexus LX570
The automaker states that owners of affected vehicles will receive a notification via mail in the next few weeks, notifying them of the issue along with information on how to proceed. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive new driver’s side floor mats and retention clips under the recall.
