The Cash for Clunkers program has proven to be a benefit to automakers in the U.S. One segment that experienced a very good jump in sales due to the program were hybrid vehicles. egmCarTech reports that sales were up 35 percent in the month of July.
The 2010 Toyota Prius led the hybrid segment in July sales. It is reported that Prius sales were up 47.5 percent for the month and were up 29.7 percent compared to sales of July 2008.
Sales of the Lexus RX450h crossover hybrid were more than 2 and one half times better in July than in June. And the Ford Escape hybrid SUV experienced a sales jump of 54.7 percent over June. The Ford Fusion hybrid sedan had a sales spike of 25.8 percent and the Toyota Camry hybrid sales were up 19.9 percent.
Sales of conventional gasoline engine vehicles were also up 15.4 percent last month.
