Ranking of world’s largest carmakers were released today and Toyota, again, remains on top.
In the U.S., Toyota and Lexus together saw sales increase 0.3 percent during 2010. Sales performance in China and other countries more than outweighed the slowing demand in the U.S., for Toyota. However, when you include Lexus, Daihatsu, and Hino Motors, deliveries increased by 8 percent to 8.42 million units in 2010, with Toyota is projecting an increase to about 8.6 million units in calendar year 2011.
Rated second was General Motors, with 8.39 million units sold. That’s up 12 percent from 2009. Finally, last but not least, Volkswagen was a more distant third place finisher, with sales of 7.14 million units representing growth of 14 percent. The German automaker’s ambitious plans of outdoing Toyota worldwide in the mid-term future suggests 2011 will be an interesting year to watch for worldwide automotive sales.
