Michigan, to be kind, took an enormous hit during this so-called Great Recession. In fact, things were not all that great in the state prior to the downturn. Officials have been doing everything, including begging, to get companies to locate into the state.

The automaker is considering moving because the company has its North American engineering and assembly units there. It doesn’t hurt that either location is less expensive as Toyota works to weather the recession while the company makes some operational cuts and performs some reorganization.
