While electric cars may be arguably limited in range at this time, there’s no argument they have plenty of power. EVs launch like rockets when you stomp the gas electric pedal due to high amounts of torque or low-end power. Gasoline-powered vehicles, on the other hand, take time (admittedly in milliseconds) to rev up to the prerequisite speed.
Toyota Motorsports GmbH (TMG) recently demonstrated the power of EVs on the (in)famous Nurburgring Nordschleife track in Germany. Well known for its long stretches of track followed by sudden twists, turns, and elevation changes, automakers from all over the world use the Nurburgring as the crucible for their sportiest vehicles. Driver Jochen Krumbach recently completed the 14.2 mile Nordschleife course in a jaw-dropping 7 minutes, 47.794 seconds in his all-electric TMG EV P001, easily besting the prior record of 9 minutes, 1.338 seconds, and suffering no range-anxiety whatsoever
Krumbach’s phenomenal drive in the TMG EV P001 can be seen in the video below. Two electric engines help soar the EV to 72 mph. It was the 590 lb-ft of torque, though, that shot it to its new record.
