Auto racing is a dangerous, potentially lethal sport. So we have to wonder what was going through the heads of Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of supercar maker Aston Martin and Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motors and one of the world’s largest automakers. They not only decided to race the punishing Nurburgring, but in the other automaker’s supercars, with Toyoda driving the Aston Martin V12 Zagato racecar, and Bez piloting the Lexus LFA supercar. Couldn’t they have played golf, instead, like most executives? We’re even more surprised that both men’s handlers didn’t have their bosses secretly kidnapped, dispatched to an undisclosed psychiatric location, and “treated” until they came to their senses as heads of major corporations.
Well, apparently rank in the corporate ladder does have its privileges, as does bloodline, seeing as how Toyoda is also a direct scion of Toyota’s founder Sakichi Toyoda. Finally, both men are avid racers, with Toyoda blogging about his experiences, while Bez has raced in the 24 Hours in Nurburgring. We still suspect more than a few upper level staff fell over when at one point, Toyoda-san, while driving the race-only, hyper-expensive Zagato, was tapped by another car and…well, check out the video.
