Much to the delight of our editorial team here at Automotive.com, some automakers have been shaking up traditional advertising— ditching worn practices of reciting features and praise— in exchange for a little humor.
Toyota recently did this with the Yaris, playfully poking fun at how basic the car is, suggesting it has windows that “go down, and up! Standard.” Kia brought in some playful hamsters for some added levity in the Soul campaign, and Ford charmed us with its puppet, Doug, for the Focus ads.
A couple things set these apart from conventional ads. This new breed builds web-credibility through social media sharing, and not surprisingly, the cars are playing to a younger demographic. The target audience is more likely to see and share them. In Hyundai’s case, they decided to get a little cheeky with their 15-seocnd spots, fitting for a convention-defying car that’s a little cheeky too. Back in September we got to drive the all new 2012 Hyundai Veloster, and came away pretty impressed. The Veloster is distinct from its competitors, and its advertising should reflect as much. Hyundai’s sporty three-door also features lots of newer technology that web-savvy viewers will likely appreciate. You can check out the 2012 Hyundai Veloster spots below and decide for yourself.
