The Downshift Episode 14: Host Jessi Lang Tames Nissan GT-R, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Corkscrew

Host Jessi Lang of the Motor Trend Channel recently put the Nissan GT-R—and herself—to the test at the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca racetrack up at Monterey, California.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is famous among racers and car enthusiasts alike, its twisty tracks used by both car and motorcycle racers. This was Lang’s first experience at the track, participating as a driver of the 2013 GT-R Experience. The famed Skip Barber’s high performance driving school prepped her with all necessary skills which included acceleration and braking, high-speed lapping, and track line technique. She would need all those skills especially as she faced Laguna Seca’s famous Corkscrew, where the track drops 59 feet in one turn, then 109 feet in another, all the while cornering in a powerful car. Lang says the Corkscrew definitely tested faith in your driving skill as well as the strength of your car.
