Survey Ranks the Most and Least Expensive Vehicles to Insure

2012-Toyota-Sienna-LE-passenger's-side

Ever wonder what the most and least expensive cars to insure are? Well you’re in luck, as Insure.com has compiled a list of the top 20 vehicles for each category. Many factors were taken into consideration while building this list, such as the frequency of crashes for a model, cost of repairs, cost to insure a vehicle when it’s totaled, and cost of bodily injury claims. All of these factors were taken into account and over 900 vehicles were evaluated.

The overall rankings were based on the average insurance rates for a single, 40-year-old male who travels 12 miles to work every day. Average auto insurance rates were gathered from what Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive, and State Farm charge in 10 zip codes per state. Policy limits included $100,000 for injury liability for one person, $300,000 for all injuries and $50,000 for property damages. A $500 deductable on collision and comprehensive coverage was also included along with the assumption the driver has a clean driving record and a good credit rating. As usual, actual rates will vary depending on individual factors surrounding a driver.

As for the most and least expensive vehicles to insure, the Audi R8 Spyder Quattro convertible takes the number one spot needing an extra $3384 to insure it. The Toyota Sienna LE on the other hand, only requires an extra $1111 to be covered with auto insurance. It should come as no surprise that a supercar sits at the top of the most expensive vehicles to insure list while a minivan is the cheapest. Audi’s R8 knocks off perennial contenders from Mercedes-Benz and Porsche for the most expensive vehicle to insure in 2012. Not all other super car insurance information was made available, so they were omitted from this survey. Check out the full top 20 vehicles that are the most and least expensive to insure below.
