Stylish, Practical is the 2010 Kia Forte. (Part I)

2010 Kia Forte Front Right Angle Road

When the all-new Hyundai Sonata debuted in 2005 as a 2006 model, the vehicle was hailed as a game changer by both the press and the consumer. Now Kia aims to do the same with the Spectra-replacing Forte compact sedan.
I test-drove the Forte up in Seattle, Washington, this week upon invitation from Kia. I found the Forte a handsome vehicle, with strong European styling and lines, and above the more placid-looking Toyota Corolla and compressed Ford Focus. Folks who found the curvy Honda Civic and Mazda3 too polarizing should look at the Forte. Rear design and tailights strongly hinted of the Volkswagen Jetta while the front fascia looked strongly reminded me of older Audis. A long indent in the lower half of the doors and the blacked out rear skirt gave the Forte a more sporty appearance.

Exterior fit and finish were superb, which continued in the interior of the car. I and my colleagues had a difficult time finding any noteworthy gaps on the center console, dash, or interior door panels. Hard plastic abound as you can expect in this segment, but Kia did a superb job in disguising the fact. Yes, the materials on the door panels looked that convincing.
