While driving on the highway in Southern California, Duane Sempson of Motor Trend spotted this prototype driving along. The body looks reminiscent of the Lexus HS 250h, but as it has been discontinued, could we be looking at a potential test mule for a future Lexus CT 200h sedan?
Audi is bringing a sedan version of its popular A3 that has thus far only been available as a hatchback, so it would make sense for Lexus to be amping up the CT lineup, especially after the January 2012 announcement Lexus made in regards to its entry-level hybrid.
With sales of the CT 200h down in the first five months of 2013, this prototype could signal a play to increase sales with a sedan variant, however Lexus had no comment.
Taking another look at this prototype, it may not be intended to be a Lexus vehicle at all. Scion is potentially going to move upmarket, and this may be a glimpse at the direction they plan to go. Could this be a new four-door Scion model? Is Toyota bringing back the Yaris sedan? We can only wait for the prototype to shed its camouflage to find out just what this car is, but feel free to add your own speculation in the comments section below.
