As the next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class gets closer to production, it makes sense that a new Mercedes-Benz GLK would be nearing a production line, too. Based on the C-Class, the Mercedes-Benz GLK is similarly long in the tooth, and ready for a full upgrade, despite a refresh last year.
Details are still sparse on the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK, but we can make a few educated guesses. Despite the camouflage, it’s clear that the next GLK will sport softer lines than the current vehicle, keeping with Mercedes-Benz’s current design philosophy. It’s also likely that the 2015 GLK will be bigger, putting a little more distance between it and the CLA-based GLA, which we’ve also seen in spy photos. This follows the evolution of the C-Class, which is also growing to distance itself from the new CLA sedan.
With all this sharing going on, it’s equally likely that the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK will have similar engine choices as the C-Class. So we expect possibly a 180-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, with an upgrade to a twin-turbo, 330-hp 3.0-liter V-6 available. With the success of the current-generation GLK BlueTec diesel, we would expect that engine to make an appearance as well. There are also rumors of a hybrid version of the C-Class, and it would make sense for Mercedes-Benz to amortize that technology across as many models as possible.
