We can’t quite put our finger on it, but Mazda’s new ad— Better. Stonger. Smarter.— rubs us the right way. It’s playful, a direct reference to The Six Million Dollar Man, and most importantly, it neither bores us nor is annoying. And it’s fitting too, because that’s how we feel about the new crossover. It won’t blow you away, but it’s charming and likeable.
Mazda’s new compact crossover competes against a handful of resilient stalwarts such as the Honda CR-V, the Toyota Rav4, and Chevy Equinox. All are new and improved (they have the technology), and do a lot of things quite well. But the CX-5 is as stylish and fun as any, and gets great gas mileage, too. Starting at under $22,000, you get a lot of compact crossover for the money. Go top of the line and you’re pushing $30,000. But that gets you bigger alloy-wheels, all-wheel-drive, leather seats, navigation and a media screen, and more. The all-new CX-5 has Mazda’s full range of Skyactiv technologies, which as the commercial points out, can net you 35 mpg on the highway. You can check out Mazda’s new playful spot below:
