Although electric vehicles never need to stop at gas stations, EV owners must deal with locating a compatible charging station. That may no longer be as much of an issue either as seven automakers have agreed to use the same approach for fast charging EVs. The involved automakers include Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Porsche, and Volkswagen. The charging system details are expected to become an international standard for electric vehicles—a good thing since recharging stations will soon appear in the United States and Europe.
The single-port fast charging station integrates every possible charging scenario and is channeled through a solitary vehicle inlet. The station will communicate to the vehicle, making it possible for different EVs to plug-in. Reducing the build complexity for EVs from different automakers was another factor leading to the universal charging station solution.
Customer recommendations along with reviews and analysis of current charging strategies played a role in the homogenization of charging stations. The universal fast charging station will set the ground work for future infrastructure developments and a procedure that will help integrate electric vehicles into the smart grids.
