Marking the 37th anniversary of the charity event, the 2013 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race will be held on April 20, and the official vehicle has been announced as the Scion FR-S. The race-ready vehicle made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show.
The FR-S will produce 210 horsepower and is equipped with performance enhancements, including a range of Toyota Racing Development (TRD) products like stainless-steel exhaust, a brake kit featuring Hawk Performance brake pads, and 18 inch wheels.
“The newly designed Scion FR-S sports coupes are being prepared to debut in time for the 37th anniversary of one of America’s most entertaining motorsports events,” said Les Unger, Toyota national motorsports manager. After receiving great reviews for its 2012 launch, the Scion FR-S earned itself a significant following, as well as many awards.
The Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race pits celebrities from all entertainment mediums against each other, as well as with professional drivers. The event will benefit “Racing for Kids,” a nonprofit, national fundraising program supporting children’s hospitals throughout the U.S.
In addition to annual contributions, Toyota will donate an additional $15,000 in conjunction with the 16th annual “People Pole Award,” sponsored by People magazine, which honors the pole-position winner of the Pro/Celebrity Race qualifying session on April 19.
