The last time we heard from GM’s Saturn division, it was being purchased by Roger Penske, famed racer and owner of the Penske Automotive Group among other car-related companies. The plan, according to Penske, was to use the Saturn dealers to sell another car that the Penske Group will import into the U.S.
Well, Saturn dealers in Canada woke up to some bad news a few mornings ago. The Penske Automotive Group, reports AutoWeek, will not be including Saturn dealers in Canada. Penske and GM jointly agreed to close those dealerships.
Apparently, Penske and GM thought they didn’t have any other choice. It appears that through the month of July, only 5,816 Saturn light vehicles were sold in Canada. That’s down 50.2 percent from last year. Total sales of light vehicles in Canada plummeted more than 16 percent through July.
There are 46 Saturn dealers in Canada affected by this decision.
