Rolls-Royce’s strategy in creating a second model based on its V-12-powered Ghost sedan is to boost sales, as well as increase its product offerings. Rolls-Royce employed a similar strategy for its other model lines in the past. The Phantom sedan, which debuted in 2003, spawned a long-wheelbase model soon after its debut, and the Drophead Coupé premiered in 2007.
“I’m quite confident that we’re going to see a Ghost derivative to come,” Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes told Bloomberg.
In the vein of its other model lines, the variant could likely be a coupe or a convertible. The move comes as Rolls-Royce is looking to increase its worldwide sales. The brand hopes to sell 2000 units this year, nearly twice as many as it delivered in 2009. In the first eight months of 2010, Rolls-Royce sold 208 units in the United States, nearly consistent with its 2009 figure of 216 over the same period of time.
