And we’re back! Auto show season in North America has commenced with the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, taking place from November 30 through December 9 for the public days. However, we’re here on the ground, not only covering the show itself, which our coverage can be found here, but also checking out the sights and sounds surrounding it. This is our reporters notebook where we’ll be posting what we see as we see it.

Ever wonder what the back seat of a $130,000 2013 Range Rover Autobiography edition looks like? Instead of a bench for five, the middle is taken out for a wood-covered console. It also has nearly 40 speakers, some of which are mounted right into the seat. We saw this at the Jaguar-Land Rover pre-auto show party at Paramount Studios on the same set where The Truman Show‘s famous climactic ocean scene was filmed. –Jacob Brown

The Hyundai-hosted party had mermaids. We’re not sure what they have to do with the brand, but we’re not going to complain. Jack Black and his band Tenacious D was there, too. They put on a heck of a show. –JB
