2010 Ford Fusion Wheel

A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation of 317,315 Ford Motor Co. midsize sedans has been upgraded to an engineering analysis. The alleged defect is 2010 Ford Fusions and Mercury Milans may have fractured wheel studs. If true, it could result in one of a driver’s worst nightmares: A wheel falling off while driving.

According to the NHTSA, there have been a total of 29 complaints and 128 warranty claims related to complaints of wheel stud fractures. Also, there have been four reported incidents where a wheel stud fracture has resulted in a wheel coming off.

If the NHTSA believes a safety issue should be addressed, the investigation could result in an official recall of these vehicles by Ford Motor Co.
