At the end of last month, Ford announced a recall on select 2013 Ford Explorer, Taurus, and Lincoln MKS vehicles with a manufacturing date between November 29, 2012 and December 12, 2012. The recall was for possible faulty child safety locks that may change from activated to deactivated positions without any notice.
If this were to happen, the door could be unlocked and opened from the inside by a child, potentially leading to personal injury to the child. Ford has begun to notify owners of the affected vehicles, and a full recall is expected to begin August 5. The recall number in relation to this incident is 13S07.
Dealers will test and, if necessary, replace all malfunctioning locks at no cost to the customer. Owners can contact Ford’s Customer Relationship Center by phone at (866) 436-7332 with the recall number for further information. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline is also available for contact by phone at (888) 327-4236 or online at www.safercar.gov.
