Earlier this month, BMW announced a recall for model year 2007 to 2010 X5 SAV vehicles with a manufacturing date between September 12, 2006 and March 18, 2010, equipped with an eight-cylinder engine. The problem lies with the brake vacuum pump possibly leaking lubricating oil onto the hose. This leaking can result in a loss of assisted braking.
Without assisted braking, stopping distances will increase, leading to a higher possibility of an accident. BMW will notify all owners of vehicles matching the above criteria, and dealers will replace the brake vacuum lines with ones that have check valves at no cost to the owner. The recall begins this month.
