Recall Alert: Loose Rear Axle Nut Leads to Chrysler Dodge Dakota, Ram 1500 Recall

Chrysler is recalling 44,300 of its 2009-2010 Dodge Dakota and Ram 1500 pickup trucks.

According to the National Highway Safety Administration, the rear axle pinion nut in these vehicles may loosen, potentially locking the axle. This could result in the driver losing control of Dakota or 1500 which could lead to an accident. No such accidents, injuries, or fatalities attributed to this issue have been reported at the time of this post.

Chrysler, for its part, will begin contacting Dodge Dakota and Ram 1500 owners starting on November 12. They will be asked to bring their pickup trucks to dealerships which will install a pinon nut retainer at Chrysler’s expense. Truck owners can contact Chrysler now by calling (800) 247-9753 and reference recall campaign number M34. The NHTSA can also be contacted at (888) 327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or searching the federal agency’s website for recall campaign ID 12V474000.
