The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic hasn’t even been on dealership lots for a year when it suffers another recall. The first recall involved the subcompact’s brake pads. The latest now involves the Sonic’s windshield washer hose.
Yup. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration writes that the 2013 Chevy Sonic’s windshield washer hose system does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 104. It’s not just some bureaucratic nitpicking, though. Apparently the Sonic’s windshield washer hose may disconnect from the washer fluid reservoir, and the federal agency is concerned a dirty windshield will lead to accidents. Apparently there are a lot of Americans driving out there with dirty windshields.
Chevrolet Sonic models affected were built between May 5, 2011 through February 24, 2012. GM plans to start contacting Sonic owners next month to bring their vehicles to dealerships. There, maintenance staff will examine the Sonic’s windshield washer hose and make sure it complies with regulations, all without cost to owners.
