Toyota announced that it will be conducting a voluntary safety recall on select 2004 to 2011 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab trucks for faulty seat belt pre-tensioner screws. The recall is expected to involve 342,000 vehicles.
The affected vehicles may have screws that attach the seat belt pre-tensioner to the seat belt retractor that will come loose over time. This defect is on both the driver and front passenger seats, with the screws coming loose thanks to repeated forceful opening and closing of the access door.
If the screws were to loosen completely, the seat belt pre-tensioner, as well as the retractor spring cover, could potentially separate from the retractor, affecting performance and potentially increasing injury in the event of an accident.
Toyota will notify owners directly via mail and dealers will handle all repairs at no cost to the owner. More information regarding this recall is available at www.toyota.com/recall. Owners may also contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center by phone at (800) 331-4331.
