Earlier this week Subaru announced a recall that would affect certain 2013 model year Outback and Legacy vehicles manufactured between February 15, 2012 and June 15, 2012. The reason these vehicles are being recalled is that the inner and outer shafts of the steering column may become disengaged from one another.
In the event that the steering column becomes disengaged from the inner and outer shafts, the driver of the vehicle would lose the ability to steer, increasing the likelihood of an accident, as well as personal injury.
Subaru will contact owners directly and dealers will replace the steering column assembly with a new one at no cost to the owner. The recall will start on May 15, 2013. Subaru is available for contact by phone at (800) 782-2783 with the recall campaign number WQI-45. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline is also available for contact by phone at (888)327-4236 or online at www.safercar.gov.
