Updated: Pure Americana: From Maine to Miami, in a Volkswagen Passat TDI

Travel with Associate Editor Matt Askari as he drives from Portland, Maine to Miami, Florida in a Volkswagen Passat TDI.

Miami-View

There’s nothing quite like the adventure of a road trip—new places, sights, things to eat and drink, a bevy of new experiences at the ready—and it’s with this in mind that we embarked on our summer adventure. Luckily, the U.S. has a far reaching network of well weathered Interstates, and for this trip we chose to travel down the popular I-95, through 13 states that span the length of the East Coast of America. With over 1840 miles to log on our route, we wanted a vehicle that would deliver good fuel economy, but also one that would accompany us with relative comfort and style. Lastly, being the consumer-minded site that we are, we thought we should park the Lambo (we don’t actually have one, but it sounds cool to say that) and opt for something more accessibly priced. Hence we piloted a Volkswagen Passat TDI, a car that could more than meet all of our criteria for this little adventure, and an adventure it was! You can begin the journey, from Maine to Miami.
