Infiniti has put price tags on its 2014 QX60 and QX70 crossovers. You may be asking yourself if those are two all-new models. They’re not. And they’re not related to one another, either, outside of a badge or two. They’re wholly separate vehicles.
The 2014 Infiniti QX60 is what you used to call the Infiniti JX35. In the old model, the “35″ meant it had a 3.5-liter V-6 engine; the “60″ just means that this vehicle is higher up in the hierarchy than the QX50–formerly the EX35–and lower than the QX70. That one used to be called the FX.
The reasoning behind all of it is convoluted, but it makes sense once you start looking at the brand’s overall ambitions. All you really need to know is that the vehicles are largely unchanged and that the QX60 starts at $42,545, including $995 for destination and handling, a $300 bump for the three-row crossover. That’ll get you a front-wheel-drive model with the same 265-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 as last year’s JX. All-wheel drive adds another $1,400.
Perhaps the only other change worth noting until the supercharged four-cylinder hybrid version comes out towards the end of this year is that the QX60′s premium package option has been split into two separate boxes to check and prices for most options have actually come down quite significantly. Thank you, deflation of the yen!
The 2014 Infiniti QX70 comes in the same flavors as last year’s models, the Infiniti FX37 and FX50, but it’s now called the same thing no matter what engine you get. The QX70 starts at $45,945 with the 325-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 and standard rear-wheel drive. Adding all-wheel drive brings that up to a princely sum of $47,395. And, finally, a 5.0-liter V-8 model with 390 horsepower tops $62,495 before you start checking the options boxes. Fortunately in all but the options choices, prices remain the same for the new model year. Even then, most options have gone down in price.
So it’s possible to have your cake and eat it, too. If you don’t mind the name changes, you can get basically the same crossovers for a little less cash. Both are on sale now.
