Porsche is experiencing some growing pains and is turning to sometimes ally/parent/conqueror Volkswagen to help relieve the pressure.
The sports car maker will be using VW’s Osnabrueck car plant to assemble its Porsche Boxster convertible. Porsche is tapping the plant to handle its overflow from its main Zuffenhausen plant in Germany. In the past, Finnish company Valmet Automotive handled Porsche’s overflow issues, assembling the Porsche Cayman as well as the Porsche Boxster from 1997 until last year.
The Osnabrueck plant can be used to assemble around 100,000 vehicles annually. Porsche has scheduled to start Boxster production this summer but is mum on the exact number of vehicles to be assembled there or additional production plans.
