Porsche Macan Crossover Peeks Out of Camouflage

Porsche announced back in late 2010 that it planned to build a new, smaller, crossover slotted under its midsized Cayenne. The sports car maker surprised the press earlier this year when it announced the new crossover would be called “Macan“. Everyone had assumed the crossover would go by the designation, “Cajun” though Porsche never officially endorsed the name.

Our counterparts over at Automobile Magazine recently posted spy shots of the elusive Macan which, even now, details are scarce. As you can see, fake body panels have been tacked on the Porsche Macan’s chassis, which is based off a modified version of the Audi Q5. Both headlights and taillamps are covered with translucent stickers to (barely) hide details.

The Porsche Macan will be built at the automaker’s Leipzig, Saxony, plant, alongside the larger Cayenne and the Porsche Panamera sedan. Speculation has it that the Macan will share the Q5′s powertrains and may be available with diesel and hybrid engines. Interestingly, Porsche may offer the Macan in three and five door versions. That would make the Porsche Macan a possible competitor to the similar Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.
