Pontiac G8 owners will soon be receiving a letter from General Motors.
The automaker has issued a recall on its model year 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 sedans. According to both GM and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall involves a delay in the deployment of the front passenger dual-deployment airbag in certain crash situations that may result in head injuries.
38,444 Pontiac G8 sedans may be affected by the airbag module issue, which can be found in vehicles manufactured from November 7th, 2007 through January 22nd, 2009. The NHTSA states that GM will reprogram the affected module free of charge, though the automaker has not stated when it will issue the recall notice.
There have been no reported accidents and/or injuries related to the Pontiac G8 airbag module issue, which was discovered during testing of the sedan. Owners can contact their local dealership or GM at (800) 630-2438 or NHTSA at (866) 327-4236. The NHTSA Campaign ID number is 11V534000.
General Motors added the Pontiac to its stable of vehicles in 1926. Considered the “sporty” marque by the public, the automaker closed the brand last year as part of GM’s restructuring deal with the federal government.
