Fuel prices and the desire to meet demands for smaller, more economic autos is driving General Motors towards placing the Chevrolet Aveo-based G3 into the Pontiac lineup.
The G3 would offer 34 mpg highway and 25 mpg in the city according to the EPA.
The Mexican-built G3, which is already sold in Canada (where it’s called the Wave) and Mexico, would provide Pontiac with a lower priced entrant into the fuel economy-driven compact car class. Where its current Pontiac Vibe begins at just under $16,000, the G3 would be offered at around $11,000, or slightly more than its twin Aveo.
Our take? Badge engineering at its worst.
