It’s official. Today, Ford announced that the EPA has rated the 2013 Fusion Energi at 108 MPGe city, 92 MPGe highway and 100 MPGe combined. The EPA also concluded that the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi carries a 620-mile range and can go up to 21 miles running strictly on electricity. The 2013 Ford Fusion Energi is the Blue Oval’s second plug-in hybrid model to enter production after the all-new C-MAX Energi, which went on sale in November of last year. Ford now boasts five total electric vehicles in its stable, each of which have chipped in on Ford’s sales. Almost 20,000 hybrid units were sold in the fourth quarter of last year alone.
Ford will be the first to tell you that the 2013 Fusion Energi’s 620-mile range is nearly triple the electric-only range that rival Honda and Toyota plug-in models offer. Ford also claims that the Fusion Energi can travel from Boston to Virginia Beach (a total of 572 miles) on a single tank of gas and a fully charged battery. The 2013 Ford Fusion Energi can go as fast as 85 mph with a fully charged battery. Standard features on the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi include SYNC, MyFord Touch, and active park assist. The MyFord Mobile smartphone app allows owners to locate charging stations, monitor the charging process, and even plan trips around charging station locations. According to Ford, this application will become available “soon.” SmartGauge with EcoGuide, which is displayed on a 4.2-inch LCD screen, also helps drivers see how much fuel they’re saving. Another 4.2-inch screen shows green leaves growing when you’re driving conservatively.
Other features found on the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi include EV+, an algorithm that helps deliver more electric-only drive time; Eco cruise, which eases on acceleration when compared to normal cruise control; and regenerative braking. An EV mode button allows drivers to jump between all-electric and hybrid operations and even allows for battery conservation. A hybrid transmission allows the Fusion Energi to run smoothly at high speeds while still being fuel efficient at the same time.
