It’s back! The list of 11 cars and 15 trucks for top 2007 car and truck, respectively, will be voted on by a panel of 50 automotive journalists in early December and the top 3 vote getters in each category will be announced shortly after. The awards will be given out at the North American Auto Show in Detroit on January 7th.The car of the year candidates are:
- Chrysler Sebring
- Dodge Caliber
- Honda Fit
- Infiniti G35
- Jaguar XK/XKR
- Lexus LS 460
- Mercedes Benz S-Class
- Nissan Altima
- Nissan Versa
- Saturn Aura
- Toyota Camry
The truck of the year candidates are:
- Acura MDX
- Acura RDX
- Audi Q7
- BMW X5
- Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban
- Chevrolet Silverado
- Dodge Nitro
- Ford Edge
- GMC Acadia
- Honda CR-V
- Hyundai Santa Fe
- Jeep Wrangler
- Mazda CX-7
- Saturn Vue Green Line
- Toyota FJ Cruiser
Two of the vehicles on this year’s list have received the award in the past (Nissan Altima in 2002 and Acura MDX in 2001) while 3 others have made the top 3 (Infiniti G35, Chevrolet Silverado and Tahoe). Honda swept the awards last year with its Civic and Ridgeline winning the respective awards.
The award has been given out annually since 1994
Our take? Based on previous winners, the Honda Fit and Saturn Vue Green Line appear to be candidates to win. Small and environmentally friendly vehicles seem to be favored by the panels.
