Nissan, as if its GT-R wasn’t faster than the competition at Nurburgring, has gone on to make another fast time in a whole different class of vehicles.
The automaker can now able claim to having the fastest fuel-cell powered vehicle time to be recorded at the Nurburgring. The distinction was made in, of all things, a Nissan X-trail. Essentially a not-forp-America competitor to the Toyota RAV-4, the five seat crossover boasted hydrogen fuel cells capable of producing 120 horsepower and Li Ion batteries helped to provide 500 km of range. With only water as exhaust, the car proves that the adoption of new motor technology can provide much of what gas motors already offer.
Note the X-trails’ time was not reflective of the car’s actual performance either, as foul condition took away considerable chunks of time. The driver feels that some 40 seconds could be trimmed off that in ideal conditions.
Our take? Nissan may as well call themselves the new kings of the Nurburgring, and it seems its goal is to simply be faster than everyone else.
