Usain Bolt is best known for winning gold medals and holding world records in the 100 and 200 meter sprints among others, and Nissan–looking to capitalize on this notoriety–has just introduced a one-off golden-colored Nissan GT-R “Bolt” edition. The gaudy, gold GT-R is as loud as the often outspoken athlete himself. The Nissan GT-R Bolt edition will be auctioned off on eBay, and proceeds are to benefit the Olympic champion’s Usain Bolt Foundation, which helps to create educational and cultural opportunities in his native country of Jamaica.
Nissan also announced that it was giving Bolt the title of “Director of Excitement.” At the Japanese automaker’s global headquarters, Bolt said “racing is my inspiration, and I want to help Nissan become an even more exciting brand for everyone.” The athlete is slated to work with Nissan to develop a limited edition GT-R that will be available where GT-Rs are sold. The Nissan GT-R can top out at 196 mph, and is powered by a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. As part of his partnership with Nissan, Bolt recently did a few laps at the track—this time behind the wheel, after receiving some instruction—and Nissan says an additional Bolt GT-R for his personal use will take in to account his reactions, acceleration and other factors observed on the track.
