Nissan last week announced a recall for model year 2012-2013 NV passenger vans for a potential steering column shifter installation deficiency. The affected models were assembled between December 2010 and January 2013.
The defect, a transmission lever gear selector plate lock clip, may have been incorrectly installed at assembly. As a result, affected vehicles could improperly display an incorrect gearshift lever indicator, or put simply: if you’re in Drive, or Park, the shift lever may not align with D or P.
Worse yet, if you plan to park and shift into P, the affected vehicle may not actually be in Park, and the vehicle could unexpectedly roll away, thus increasing risk of injury and damage to self or others.
Beginning April 8, Nissan will notify owners and instruct dealers to remedy the fix free of charge.
