Nissan Titan Heavy Duty Plans Nixed. For Now

2006 Nissan Titan Front Right Angle

Both Motor Trend and Truckin’ blogs report that Nissan Motor Co. have scrapped any plans to bring heavy duty versions (three-quarter and one ton) of its Titan pickup to market. The automaker felt that, due to increased consumer interest in lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicles in response to rising gas prices, the cost to develop new frames and engines would be prohibitive with low return. The automaker plans, instead, to focus on the current half-ton and develop specific trims and option packages.

Our take? Toyota must be breathing a little easier with one less contender to deal with.
