Should the luxury monikers Porsche and BMW be shaking? Or are they laughing in their corner offices over the audacity of a non-German car maker taking them on.
Nissan is supposed to be going after Porsche and BMW with its new GT-R, its most expensive sports car to date. And the Japanese manufacturer isn’t kidding, either.
The GT-R will compete with the Porsche Cayman and the BMW M3. Plans currently call for the formation of a specialized sales and technical staff. There will be at least one salesperson and one technical staff member dedicated to selling the GT-R in about 160 of 2,400 sales outlets in Japan, said Nissan. All of this by March 31 2008.
The GT-R sells for $67,000.
Our take? The Germans better watch their rearview mirrors. There’s a new racer on the track and it’s out for blood.
